Amy Webb is tracking all the acquisitions made by Internet giants like Yahoo!, Google, Microsoft and AOL. No wonder, the red block corresponding to Google occupies the maximum estate.

Intel sued for Core 2 Duo patent infringement -- by the University of Wisconsin

Although Intel's mighty proud of the Core 2 Duo, it looks like the chip wasn't all home-grown -- a lawsuit filed today by the University of Wisconsin claims that the processor infringes on patented technology developed by one of its professors. Back in 1998, CS department chair Gurindar Sohi presented some of his developments relating to instruction level parallelism to Intel and offered to license them, but got nowhere -- yet the same tech is in the Core 2 Duo, according to the lawsuit. For its part, Intel says it's been talking to the Badgers for over a year now, and that it hasn't evaluated the complaint -- which it might want to do in short order, since UW's asking for the court to halt shipments of the Core 2 Duo in addition to monetary damages and legal fees.

ZAP revives hundred-year-old Detroit Electric brand

It's taken a while, but it looks like we could soon be seeing a new batch of Detroit Electrics roaming the roads, as ZAP has just announced that its reviving the hundred-year-old brand for some of its own all-electric vehicles. According to the company, those will be developed in a joint venture with the China Youngman Automotive Group, and will include the Zap Alias (pictured above), which we've seen previously under slightly more mysterious circumstances. Other details are expectedly light at the moment, but ZAP will apparently have plenty more to say about its new retro ways at the NADA 2008 auto show, which gets underway in San Francisco next week.

ARM demoing Android prototype at Mobile World Congress?

According to Reuters, chipmaker ARM has plans to show off an Android-based "Google Phone" prototype at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The news agency is citing a "source" for this information, and both Google and ARM declined to comment, as if reading from some sort of industry script, though we're seeing and hearing a lot of buzz from MWC on new tech, so this would come as no surprise. Come on guys, we don't mind if the OS is still a little buggy... show us some hardware.

Motorola rolls out Wave 2-ready WiMAX PC Card and desktop unit

Motorola's already made some moves in advance of the big Mobile World Congress going down in Barcelona next week, but it looks like the company still has plenty more up its sleeve, with it now announcing a new Wave 2-ready WiMAX PC Card, along with a desktop unit for those less concerned with mobility. Likely of primary interest to most, the PCCw 200 PC card supports both 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz to keep you connected 'round the globe, and is of course fully compliant with the IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard. The desktop-bound CPEi 750 (pictured after the break), on the other hand, is available in your choice of 2.5GHz or 3.5GHz configurations, and includes two VoIP/ATA ports to accommodate your various devices. No word on a price for either one just yet, but you can expect the PC card to hit sometime in the second quarter of this year, with the desktop unit slated for "mid-2008."
