LG intros 15.6-inch U560, helps stretch our definition of Ultrabook (video)

There have already been a few 15-inch Ultrabooks that have pushed the very limits of the thin-and-light category. Still, LG wants its turn at bending the rules. Its new U560 packs a 15.6-inch display and an optical drive that, together, contribute to the PC's 4.3-pound weight and 0.82-inch thickness -- really, it's a traditional laptop in a slimmer than usual package. Not that we'll complain too much when it involves an IPS-based LCD, a 1.8GHz Core i5, dedicated graphics (a support page suggests NVIDIA) and both a spinning hard disk as well as solid-state storage. The U560's launch is limited to South Korea so far, although we wouldn't be surprised to see Europe and other territories get their turn.

Google's Native Client endowed x86 machines with the ability to run apps compiled from C and C++ right inside Chrome in 2011, and now ARM devices are finally getting their time to shine. Mountain View's latest Native Client SDK adds support for ARM hardware, and tweaking existing Native Client apps to run on the architecture sounds pretty painless. According to Page and Co., developers just have to add a new file extension to their app, tweak a manifest file and get ahold of the fresh SDK. ARM support is reason enough for developers to celebrate, but Google says it's working on a next-gen Portable Native Client that'll let apps work regardless of architecture and without having to recompile, to boot. Lamborghini's New 'Aventador' Packs Huge Power, But Doesn't Eat Up Gas

Very rarely does a super sports car think about saving fuel.

It is all about packing as much power as possible to get the maximum output, which results in massive fuel consumptions.

But with the world's leading companies looking at the green side, Lamborghini couldn’t be left far behind. The brand new 2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 gives out a better fuel efficiency with a cylinder deactivation and innovative start/stop system.

With one of the world’s most advanced start/stop systems, the new Aventador is able to deliver the energy restart after a routine traffic stop through high-performance capacitors known as supercaps.

It might sound fancy and technical but what these supercaps basically do is bring the car to full V12 power in a very fast 180 milliseconds, one of the world’s fastest systems.

Also keeping in mind Lamborghinis lightweight objective, this unit reduces the over all weight by 3 KGs as it supplies power to the electronic systems of the car. Guess what the best part about this system is? It lasts virtually the entire vehicle life.

The Cylinder Deactivation System is another feature on this new LP 700-4 and this comes in handy when the car goes below a speed of 135 km/hr. The CDS acts up in conditions less than 135 km/hr and turns of one cylinder bank effectively making the car run as an inline 6. The smallest of acceleration and the V12 kicks right back in taking the car’s power to full capacity.

These new systems have brought out the best in Aventador’s fuel efficiency and bring consumption down to 16 liters/ 100 KM and reduced CO2 emissions from 398 g/km to 370 g/km.

The First Arab Supercar Costs $3.4 Million And Has Diamond-Encrusted LEDs

Next week, W Motors, based in Beirut, will reveal the Arab world's first homegrown supercar: The outrageous LykanHypersport 2013.

The oddly-named vehicle will make its debut at the Qatar Motor Show, starting January 29.

On top of impressive power figures — 750 brake horsepower, good enough to go from 0 to 62 mph in a blazing 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 242 mph — it is loaded with luxuries.

The LykanHypersport's LED lights are diamond-encrusted. The leather interior features gold stitching. The display system used 3D holograms.

For those willing to spend the $3.4 million to purchase one, the Lykan also comes with a 24-hour concierge service, and a Special Edition Cyrus Klepcys Watch, worth more than $200,000.

The LykanHypersport will be fully revealed at the Qatar Motor Show. It will certainly be expensive and luxurious. But whether it can really compete with established supercar makers remains to be seen.

It will take something great to move wealthy Arab drivers with millions to spend on cars away from classic greats, like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Koenigsegg, and Bugatti.

But even for potential owners with the cash, the new supercar will be hard to get: Only seven will be produced. Deliveries are scheduled for September.

Yahoo Is In Talks To Buy A Site We Actually Use, Snip.It (YHOO)

News just broke via AllThingsD that Yahoo is poised to acquire startup Snip.It.

Snip.It is a social site that resembles a mash up of Pinterest's collections and Instapaper's ability to save links for consumption later.

AllThingsD reports, 

Snip.it was founded by Ramy Adeeb, who was formerly a principal at Khosla Ventures, and has funding from Khosla, True Ventures, Charles River Ventures and SV Angel.

Yahoo is paying “mid teens” of millions of dollars for the company, according to an AllThingsD source.

Users organize links into collections and followers subscribe to collections based on their interests.

Snip.It has a pretty robust analytics feature baked in too so you can see exactly how many people are digesting the content that you curate.

I've been using Snip.It for some time now as a way to simply remember links that I want to read later. 

Mayer's intent to acquire Snip.It falls in line with her plans! for the future of Yahoo.

We're not sure what will happen to Snip.It after acquisition but hopefully it won't fade out of existence.
